According to Box Office Mojo, Avengers: Infinity War has assembled the largest opening weekend at the box office in history, both domestically and worldwide. Here in North America, the 19th film in the Marvel Studios cinematic universe shattered the record with a mighty $250 million in just three days, besting Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which previously held the record at $247.9 million. In a galaxy not so far away, Disney studio execs were ready to crack open some champagne either way.
Internationally speaking, the story is much the same. The third ‘Avengers’ flick debuted overseas to an impressive $380 million, which makes for a total haul of $630 million. Formerly, The Fate of the Furious held the worldwide opening title with $541.9 million. It’s also worth nothing that ‘Avengers’ has taken the belt without yet opening in China, a marketplace which The Fate of the Furious had the benefit of in its first weekend of release.
The actual numbers are still pending and we should be seeing those sometime tomorrow.
