“If it’s Halloween, it must be Saw.” Well, apparently not anymore.

Viva Bloody Disgusting, the new Saw reboot reboot starring Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson is yet again bucking all expectations– and breaking franchise tradition– by moving from its horror-friendly Oct. 23, 2020 release date up to the summer months, May 15, 2020 to be exact.

As the outlet points out, this move is no doubt in response to last week’s news that Blumhouse’s Halloween Kills will be landing in theaters just a week earlier on Oct. 16, 2020. Regardless, the new summer slot is at least on its surface a vote of confidence from Lionsgate.

The new Saw is being directed by series veteran Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II-IV) based off an original idea by Rock himself. The comedian will play a police detective investigating a series of grisly crimes and Samuel L. Jackson will portray Rock’s father. Max Minghella will play Rock’s partner while Marisol Nichols will play his boss.

No word yet on if Tobin Bell will reprise his roll as Jigsaw.

What do you make of this move from October up to May? Do you think it’s the right move on Lionsgate’s part? Or do you think the film would’ve fared better in its original spot? Sound off in the comments below and let me know your thoughts!
