Warner Bros. is ready to plug back into The Matrix.
Viva Variety, Lana Wachowski (one half of the original pair of Matrix creators) has signed on to both write and direct a fourth film for the iconic sci-fi franchise. Both Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are expected to return as Neo and Trinity, respectively.
The studio has been trying to reboot The Matrix for a couple of years now, including a potential outing featuring Creed star Michael B. Jordan. The outlet points out that executives are hoping to capitalize on The Matrix star Keanu Reeves’s recent surge in newfound popularity thanks to the John Wick films, Toy Story 4 and the upcoming third Bill and Ted film. Wachowski’s script was reportedly the cherry on top of the cake. No story details are currently known.
The initial three Matrix films grossed over $1.6 billion worldwide. Each entry was written and directed by Lana and her sister Lily Wachowski.
The Matrix 4 is eyeing an early 2020 production start.
