Batfleck is dead.

The next standalone Batman movie will land in theaters on July 25, 2021. When it does, it won’t be Ben Affleck, who played the iconic hero in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad and Justice League, under the cowl as the film will focus on a younger Bruce Wayne. This is the same Batman movie that War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves signed on to write and direct back in February of 2017.

Deadline reported the news last evening, mere hours after The Hollywood Reporter dropped their interview with Matt Reeves in which the filmmaker confirmed his film will be an “emotional” detective story featuring the Dark Knight’s rogues gallery.

Casting will kick off soon, including the search for a new Caped Crusader.

Ben Affleck, who was originally tapped to write, direct and star in the film, seemed to confirm the news via Twitter:

The Batman, as it is tentatively titled, will not be based on Frank Miller’s Batman: Year One, which is one of Reeves’ favorite Batman stories.

How do you feel about Ben Affleck stepping away from the tights and the shift to a younger Bruce Wayne? Does this entice you to want to see it any more? Hit me up in the comments below with your thoughts!
