Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn will make his directorial return to comic book movies with Suicide Squad 2, the follow-up to Warner Bros. and DC’s hit 2016 anti-hero flick.
This news comes to us from The Hollywood Reporter. The outlet points out that Gunn was already signed on to pen the script for sequel. The move to attach Gunn as the director comes after the filmmaker was fired by Disney last year after some of his old tweets from 2008 and 2009 resurfaced in which he made insensitive jokes.
Sources have told THR that the film is not a direct sequel, but rather a “relaunch” of the series. Gunn is planning to take the franchise in a new direction with a mostly all-new cast of characters as well as actors. Source also say that Suicide Squad 2 will reflect James Gunn’s unique personality, as did his Guardians of the Galaxy movies.
