Looks like Skid Row is about to get some new residents.
According to Full Circle Cinema (a site I’ve never heard of in full honesty), Rocketman star Taron Egerton is currently in talks to star in Warner Bros.’ upcoming Little Shop of Horrors remake. Speculation has it that Egerton will take on the lead role of Seymour Krelborn, a nerdy florist who happens across a man-eating plant from outer space.
So why is this story worth talking about if the source isn’t exactly THR? Well, Collider’s own Jeff Sneider seemed to confirm the story on Twitter. You can check out his tweet below:
Sneider expanded upon the story with his own bit of delectable news. It seems the part of Seymour’s love interest, Audrey, is likely to go to none other than Scarlett Johansson. Other reports also claim that Billy Porter is being eyed to voice Audrey II, the aforementioned extraterrestrial flora with an appetite for destruction.
Greg Berlanti, best known for kickstarting CW’s Arrow and the Arrowverse, is set to direct from a script by Matthew Robinson (Dora and the Lost City of Gold).
Little Shop of Horrors originated as an off-Broadway musical from composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman before being adapted for the screen in 1960 and again in 1986.
Warner Bros. has been trying to get this remake off the ground for years now. Hopefully these progressions stick because I love the casting choices. This news hits close to home for this blogger because the 1986 version of Little Shop of Horrors is one of my all-time favorite films.
