Once upon a time, May served as the gateway to the summer blockbuster season, the time of year that studios waited to release their biggest movies of the year to a larger audience who suddenly found themselves with extra free time to do things like go to the movies.
Things have changed slightly over the last decade. More and more, studios have been spreading out their release dates, taking chances with putting out bigger budget films in what used to be considered slower months like March or even February.
That’s not to say this May doesn’t have its fair share of grand spectacle. This month alone will see the release of the latest Marvel movie, the penultimate Fast & Furious film, as well as Disney’s live-action take on The Little Mermaid. And if you’re looking for something a little less boisterous, then there are still plenty of offerings this month. Let’s take a look at the new movies hitting screens in May.
