Robert Eggers is one of the most exciting young filmmakers working today. His last two films, The Witch and The Lighthouse, are two of the best reviewed and most memorable films of the last decade. Needless to say, excitement is high for the filmmaker to deliver another artsy anomaly. Fortunately, it doesn’t appear we’ll have to wait a whole lot longer to check it out.
According to IndieWire, Eggers and company have officially wrapped principal photography on The Northman, which previously had been delayed due to COVID. Though not much is known about the story of The Northman at this time, the outlet is reporting that the “Viking revenge saga” is said to be set in Iceland at the turn of the 10th century.
We also know that, as per Eggers’ MO, The Northman features a fantastic cast, including The known ensemble cast of The Northman includes Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ethan Hawke, Claes Bang, Kate Dickie, Bjork and Willem Dafoe.
Eggers himself co-wrote the film alongside Icelandic poet and novelist, Sjón.
The Northman is a New Regency and Focus Features co-production and will be released by Focus Features here in the States on some currently unknown date.
