Disney wants to grant your wish, that is if your wish was to get a sequel to last year’s live-action Aladdin remake.

Variety first broke the news that such a follow-up is indeed in development? And why not? The movie grossed over a billion dollars worldwide.

The Mouse House has summoned writers Andrea Berloff (Straight Outta Compton, The Kitchen) and John Gatins (Power Rangers, Kong: Skull Island) to pen the screenplay.

The report specifies that the project is still in the early stages of development, but that producers have, after several months of deliberation, settled on a direction for the new film. Sources have told the outlet that the new script is based on a completely original idea and not previously existing source material.

Additionally, THR reports that Guy Ritchie will indeed return to direct. Stars Will Smith, Mena Messoud and Naomi Scott are expected to return as well, although no official offers will go out until the script is complete.
