Did you see this coming?

From The Hollywood Reporter, a sequel to the 2016 horror thriller Don’t Breathe is officially happening and Fede Alvarez, who directed the first film, has found his behind-the-camera replacement in frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues, who co-wrote the original film with Alvarez.

Not much at this point is known about Don’t Breathe 2, other than a few key story beats: set several years after the home invasion of the first movie, the Blind Man is living a quiet life… Until his past sins catch up to him.

Once again, Sayagues wrote the script with Alvarez. Principal photography is slated to begin this April.

In additional to writing the screenplay for the two Don’t Breathe fils, Sayagues and Alvarez previously collaborated on Panic Attack!, the breakthrough short film which set them on the path to Hollywood. Similarly, the pair co-wrote the 2013 Evil Dead remake, which Alvarez directed.

Alvarez is also staying on the project as a producer, alongside Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert of Ghost House Pictures and Good Universe. Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisition and its Stage 6 Films division are backing the production.

The first Don’t Breathe was a critical darling and a box office success, generating an outstanding $157 million globally off the back of a mere $10 million production budget.

How do you feel about Sayagues taking over as director on the Don’t Breathe sequel? Are you disappointed it won’t be Alvarez calling the shots again? Did you even like the first film? Jump down to the comments below and let me know how this story hits you!
