The Writers Guild of America’s announced today their nominees for outstanding achievements in feature film screenwriting for the 2019 calendar year. Recognition seems to be spread all around, from financial hits like Joker and Knives Out all the way to beloved independent films such as Booksmart. Because of WGA rules, heavy Oscar contenders Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, from Quentin Tarantino, and Pedro Almodóvar’s Pain & Glory are not eligible for WGA awards consideration.

Deadline notes that none of Quentin Tarantino’s nine films have been eligible for WGA awards consideration, despite his having won two Academy Awards for screenwriting.
