Per Bloody Disgusting, Legendary has tapped Fede Álvarez (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) to produce a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie. The is being planned as a direct sequel to Tobe Hooper’s 1974 slashic. Álvarez is currently seeking a director for the project. Kim Henkel, writer and producer on the original film and director of Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (1994), has retained franchise rights and will also serve as a producer.
The last film in the series Leatherface released in 2017 and was a prequel to 2013’s Texas Chainsaw 3D from Millennium. Like Halloween, multiple timelines and continuities run through the convoluted Texas Chainsaw films so it would be nice to see the slate wiped clean with a fresh vision. Sadly, Marilyn Burns, the OG Final Girl of the franchise, passed away in 2014 so exactly how the story will progress without her is anybody’s guess.
What do you think about a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie and the possibility of a fresh go at the series? Does Fede Álvarez’s involvement get your hopes up about its potential quality? Or, like me, would you prefer to see him direct? Sound off in the comments below and share your thoughts!
