Amazon is sparing no expense when it comes to Middle-earth.

Viva Variety, Will Poulter has been cast in one of the lead roles of the platform’s upcoming The Lord of the Rings television series. Exact details about Poulter’s character were not made clear. According to reports, the actor will star along Australian performer Markella Kavenagh, whose role is also under wraps.

The news comes amidst a strong year for the young actor, who has managed to snatch up one of the most coveted jobs in Hollywood. Earlier this year Poulter starred in the much-talked about Black Mirror movie Bandersnatch on Netflix as well as Ari Aster’s acclaimed horror flick Midsommar. Poulter was previously known for his roles in the Maze Runner franchise, We’re the Millers, The Revenant and Detroit (for which he solidly deserved an Best Supporting Actor nod). He was also set to play Pennywise the Dancing Clown in 2017’s IT back when Cary Joji Fukunaga (True Detective) was attached to direct.

The Lord of the Rings is being developed by the writing team of JD Payne and Patrick McKay. Game of Thrones alum Bryan Cogman will serve as a consulting producer. J.A. Bayona (A Monster Calls, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) is directing multiple episodes. Bayona will also executive produce along with his partner Belén Atienza.

The series will be produced by Amazon Studios in cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins, and New Line Cinema, a division of Warner Bros. Entertainment. The streamer previously announced a multi-season commitment to the show.
