Paramount is set to expand their G.I. Joe cinematic universe.

Courtesy of Variety, Henry Golding is set to headline Snake Eyes, the upcoming spin-off of the studio’s previous G.I. Joe films. The Crazy Rich Asians star will portray the titular hero, a silent-but-deadly ninja who carries out top-secret missions for the G.I. Joe anti-terrorist organization.

The previous two films in the franchise, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and G.I. Joe: Retaliation— the latter of which starred Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis– grossed $678 million at the worldwide box office.

Robert Schwentke is set to direct from a script penned by Beauty and the Beast screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos.

Golding recently appeared in last year’s A Simple Favor and can next be seen in the upcoming Christmas rom-com Last Christmas alongside Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke.

What do you make of this news? Do you think it’s good casting? Or do you think that the role of Snake Eyes is pretty limited and it wouldn’t have mattered who they got? Sound off in the comments below and let me know your thoughts!
