Sony confirmed Tuesday during an investors presentation that it is currently in development on a television series based on their popular video game series Twisted Metal.
Twisted Metal will come from PlayStation Productions, a new label recently announced by Sony that will explicitly focus on adapting the company’s decades-long catalog of video games for film and television.
As Sony Pictures Entertainment Chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra himself explained:
“We have a TV show we just agreed to get underway that will be developed from the IP on PlayStation, it’s called Twisted Metal.”
Twisted Metal centers around vehicular warfare; more specifically, the title refers to a worldwide demolition derby-style tournament where contestants fight to the death utilizing an array of lethal projectiles and other weapons. The winner is granted a single wish from the tournament’s demented host, Calypso, who typically realizes his or her wish in a horrifically unforeseen fashion. The first game in the series was released in 1995 and the latest installment came back in 2012.
Further details about the show have not yet been made known.
