‘John Wick 4’ Gets 2021 Release Date After ‘John Wick 3’ Has Series-Best Opening

John Wick is already getting ready to reload.

After John Wick: Chapter 3– Parabellum saw the series’ largest opening weekend to date, Lionsgate has officially slated the next installment for release. John Wick: Chapter 4 (or whatever it ends up being called) will hit theaters May 21, 2021.

The announcement came via a text message to fans who had opted to receive updates about Parabellum. The note read:

“You have served. You will be of service. John Wick: Chapter 4 is coming – May 21, 2021.”

As moviegoers who rushed out to see the third film in the growing franchise this past weekend can tell you, the titular assassin was not in a good place at the end. Much like John Wick: Chapter 2, Parabellum signs off with a tantalizing cliff-hanger, so hearing that the next installment is officially forthcoming is a nice button to the latest film’s hugely successful debut.

The announcement of John Wick 4 comes at a time where Lionsgate finds itself in need of a reliable franchise. The studio hasn’t had a guaranteed box office hit since The Hunger Games: Mockingjay– Part 2 back in 2015, which grossed over $653 million worldwide.

John Wick: Chapter 3– Parabellum pits John Wick against a world of lethal hitmen and hitwomen looking to cash in on the $14 million bounty on Wick’s head. The film was largely beloved by critics and currently sits at 88% on Rotten Tomatoes. It also reaped the reward of the franchise’s largest opening yet with $57 million, which was enough to topple Avengers: Endgame after a three-week streak at the box office’s number one spot.

No other details regarding John Wick 4 are currently known other than the only film set to open against it is Warner Bros. and DC’s animated Super Pets.
