MGM and Warner Bros. are gearing up to raid more tombs and our wallets.
According to Deadline, the studios have tapped Amy Jump to pen the script for Tomb Raider 2. Academy Award-winner Alicia Vikander is returning as Lara Croft and reportedly likes Jump’s take on the material.
Amy Jump is best known for her collaborations with director Ben Wheatley. The two have worked together on a number of films, including Kill List, High-Rise and the Brie Larson, Armie Hammer led Free Fire.
Off a reported production budget of $94 million, Roar Uthaug’s 2018 Tomb Raider dug up $274.6 million worldwide. If the film did manage to break even, it did so by the skin of its teeth. Graham King’s GK Films is producing again, this time coming off the major Oscar success of Bohemian Rhapsody. Perhaps King’s recent success has emboldened him to try a second entry in the franchise.
No word yet on if Uthaug is returning to direct.
Are you looking forward to seeing a second Tomb Raider starring Alicia Vikander? Or should they just leave the franchise alone for a while? Leave your thoughts in the comments down below and let me know!
