Last week it was reported that Academy Award-winning actress Angelina Jolie was in talks to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in The Eternals. Now comes word that comedian and Oscar-nominee in his own right Kumail Nanjiani may also come aboard the project.
The Eternals is one of two projects from Marvel Studios that is currently prepping to shoot later this year. Chloe Zhao is directing the cosmic superhero epic, which is based on the 1976 comic book series created by, you guessed it, Jack Kirby.
The Eternals are powerful, near god-like beings that were created by Celestials. You might recall, we have already encountered a Celestial inside the MCU by way of Kurt Russell aka Star-Lord’s father in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. While there still has been no confirmation on which Eternal Jolie is playing, whispers claim she will portray Sersi, a more outgoing Eternal who has not been afraid to move amongst humankind.
Details on who or what Kumail will be playing are even more elusive. The stand-up funny man recently hit a big break in his career after being nominated for Best Original Screenplay for The Big Sick, which he co-wrote with his wife Emily Gordon. Even now Nanjiani stars in the pilot episode for Jordan Peele’s The Twilight Zone reboot called The Comedian, which you can watch for free on YouTube.
As if those were not enough, Nanjiani also features in Sony’s Men in Black: International, which is set to open June 14, and then stars alongside Dave Bautista (of Drax the Destroyer fame) in the action comedy Stuber, which releases July 12.
We’ll bring you more information on this and related The Eternals production as it develops.
This word comes from The Hollywood Reporter.
Have you any thoughts on this development? Personally, I am fascinated by the casting announcements for The Eternals so far. I love Angelina Jolie and recently came around to Kumail Nanjiani as a strong performer thanks to The Twilight Zone episodes The Comedian.
