Viola Davis is reprising her role as Amanda Waller in James Gunn’s upcoming Suicide Squad reboot, according to The Wrap.
You may recall, Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker James Gunn was recently hired by Warner Bros. and DC to take control from David Ayer the Suicide Squad franchise. In addition to directing, James Gunn also wrote the script and is said to have a completely new take on the property. Speculation has run wild regarding which characters will return for Gunn’s re-imagining and which will be brand new to the series.
Well, it now appears that one of the characters returning from 2016’s Suicide Squad is Amanda Waller and Viola Davis will once again step into the role to round up a semi-new batch of DC supervillains to carry out secret missions too dirty for the likes of Superman and Batman.
The Wraps describes the character:
“…a former congressional aide and government agent who is often placed in charge of the Suicide Squad, a semi-secret government-run group of former super villains working in return for amnesty.”
Essentially, she is a total badass who is known for not taking any lip from anybody, and that includes the Dark Knight himself.
Davis currently headlines the ABC hit “How to Get Away With Murder” and starred in “The Help,” “Fences,” and 2018’s “Widows.”
Suicide Squad film will hit theaters on Aug. 6, 2021.

I did not like that first Suicide Squad; however, I think Davis is perfect cast in the role. Sound off in the comments below and let me know what you think about this news!
