You read that right. Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill, will be the voice of Chucky for the upcoming Child’s Play reboot.
The Star Wars actor confirmed as much himself via a short announcement video shot for Wonder Con.
Hamill’s announcement went a little something like this:
“Hello, Wonder Con, it’s Mark Hamill here. And if you’re wondering who’s going to voice Chucky in the new Child’s Play, you’re looking at him! I can’t wait to bring such an iconic character to life and present him in a way you’ve never see him before.”
Of course, Hamill is no stranger to the recording booth. The actor experienced a career renaissance as a voice actor following his iconic stint as the Joker in the influential Batman: The Animated Series from the 1990s as well as the popular Batman: Arkham Asylum video games.
Chucky was originally voiced by Brad Dourif back in 1988. The Academy Award-nominated actor continues to play the character and is expected to reprise the role for Syfy’s upcoming Child’s Play television series, which will continue on the continuity that original creator Don Mancini has been spearheading ever since that initial movie over thirty years ago.
If you are a regular reader of this blog, then you might remember that Mark Hamill is indeed one of my picks to take over as Chucky for the remake (click here to see my original post and the other actors I suggested).
Child’s Play opens on June 21, 2019.
