The Babadook took the horror scene by surprise when it hit theaters in 2014. Since then, the film has garnered an impressive cult following.
Five years later, director Jennifer Kent finally has a release date for the second feature film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, IFC Films has picked up Jennifer Kent’s The Nightingale and officially slated it for release on August 2nd, 2019. The IMDb synopsis of the film reads as follows:
“Set in 1825, Clare, a young Irish convict woman, chases a British officer through the rugged Tasmanian wilderness, bent on revenge for a terrible act of violence he committed against her family. On the way she enlists the services of an Aboriginal tracker named Billy, who is also marked by trauma from his own violence-filled past.”
The Nightingale is written and directed by Jennifer Kent and stars Game of Thrones actor Aisling Franciosi, Sam Claflin, and Baykali Ganambarr.
Also opening on Aug. 2 will be Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, as well as Paramount’s Dora and The Lost City of Gold.
