This weekend Oscar-winning Get Out filmmaker Jordan Peele returns to theaters with his latest thriller Us. So far, Us is on pace to handily outdo Get Out‘s opening weekend at the box office. However, it looks like we won’t have to wait until Monday to find out if Us will break any box office records.
According to Forbes, Us managed to scare up $7.4 million in early screenings Thursday night. That’s wonderful for an R-rated horror film and fourth behind only Paranormal Activity 3, Halloween and IT.
What’s more impressive is it marks the best Thursday night preview for an R-rated flick that is not based on any previously existing material or a sequel. The Forbes article goes even further, calling Us‘s Thursday the best for a wholly original property.
What do you think about Us debuting to the best Thursday night box office for a wholly original film? Is it a sign that the film will have long legs? Sound off in the comments below and let me know what you think!
