Noticeably absent from the relatively subtle Avengers: Endgame marketing campaign has been Thanos. It feels odd because the Mad Titan was front and center during the marketing going into Avengers: Infinity War.

In the first trailer for Avengers: Endgame, we caught a brief glimpse of Thanos as his devastated Infinity Gauntlet grazed the sides of a bounty of extraterrestrial crops. His worn-torn battle armor now hanging sanctimoniously as a scarecrow above his fields.

Friday, Empire Magazine gave us our first official look at Farmhand Thanos in Endgame, who retired from villainy to live a quiet life in the countryside of some far-away planet following his victory at the end of Infinity War, where he successfully snapped half of the universe’s population out of existence.

Take a look at the image below:

In the image, you can see the sun Thanos spoke of watching set over a grateful universe when he talked to Dr. Srange in Infinity War. There seems to be a lush bounty of resources for the Mad Titan to live off of, with a lake to boot. In the bottom left, his armored scarecrow dutifully guards Thanos’s land.

It will be interesting to see how big or how small of a roll Thanos (Josh Brolin) plays in Avengers: Endgame. He accomplished what he set out to do in Infinity War, so it would seem his arc has come to an end. Either way, we will get to see a new side to the not-so-gentle giant.
