Following the announcement that James Earl Jones would be reprising his role as Mufasa in the live-action The Lion King, many wondered what other iconic voices would be returning for their respective live-action adaptations.

Among the most talked about was Iago, Jafar’s winged sidekick in Aladdin. Would comedian Gilbert Gottfried be bringing his singular pipes to Guy Ritchie’s adaptation?

Well, we now have an answer. Courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has indeed cast the voice for Iago and it belongs to none other than Alan Tudyk.

Alan Tudyk will be exchanging jabs with Marwan Kenzari‘s Jafar.

Iago has been seen in a lot of the marketing for Aladdin, though we haven’t yet heard him speak. At least now when he does, we have a better idea of what he will sound like.

Alan Tudyk is no stranger to collaborating with Disney, particularly when it comes to the world of animation. The Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil star has voiced characters in such films as Ralph Breaks the Internet, Big Hero 6, Moana, Zootopia, Frozen, Wreck-It-Ralph, and he was K2-SO in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Aladdin pops into theaters May 24th, 2019.

What do you make of the recasting of Iago? Do you think Alan Tudyk is the right choice? Or should Disney have brought back Gilbert Gottfried? Sound off in the comments below and let me know!
