Warner Bros. has officially slapped the forthcoming Sesame Street and Tom and Jerry feature films with release dates.
Per The Wrap, the untitled, live-action Sesame Street will arrive on January 15, 2021. The untitled Tom and Jerry film, which is expected to be a hybrid of animation and live-action, will drop April 26 that same year.
“Portlandia” co-creator Jonathan Krisel will direct Sesame Street with Stranger Things‘ Shawn Levy producing. Meanwhile, Tim Story (Ride Along, Fantastic Four) is set to helm the Tom and Jerry project for Warner Animation Group.
If you were not already excited, Paramount is releasing a Rugrats movie, based on the Nickelodeon ’90s cartoon, in late January of 2021. Across the street, Universal is putting out The Boss Baby 2 several weeks ahead of Tom and Jerry.
In an industry high on nostalgia, it was only a matter of time until both Sesame Street and Tom and Jerry got the feature film treatment.
