We now know when Aquaman will swim back into theaters.
Via Variety, Warner Bros. announced today that the official release date for the inevitable Aquaman 2 is December 16, 2022.
The first Aquaman grossed over $1.14 billion at the worldwide box office, becoming the highest-grossing DC film yet as well as the 20th highest-grossing movie of all time.
Jason Mamoa is expected to return in the title role. Co-writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick is officially on board for the sequel. James Wan is in negotiations to return as a producer; no word yet on if he will direct.
This news comes after Warner Bros. announced they were going forward with an Aquaman spin-off based around The Trench, the sea-dwelling monsters who attacked Arthur and Mera in the film. The Aquaman cast is not expected to return for The Trench film.
