The Motion Picture Academy is about to celebrate the 91st Academy Awards. Despite the onslaught of foolish decisions made recently by their governing body, it is a time for filmmakers and film fans alike to celebrate the art form we all love so much. Part of that celebration is sharing our thoughts on what were the “Best of” from the year before. The Academy has the Oscars, the most prestigious recognition one could achieve in Hollywood, but I have the Jordies. My totally subjective awards will soon become the annual envy of the industry!
Alright, so I’ve established these are MY Oscars. But how do they work? Glad you asked! Like the Oscars, my awards are broken down into similar categories, some are more in line with the Academy’s formal ceremony while others are fun experiments. Every film listed in that categories are my nominees for that particular award. The winners are highlighted in some obvious fashion.
Now, the Jordies don’t have restrictions. There is no maximum or minimum number of nominees required in each category. I nominate as many or as little films and/or filmmakers as I believe deserve recognition. It’s also important to note that I do not see every movie every year. I don’t get free screeners of each Oscar contender mailed to my house and sometimes I don’t even get a particular film in my area. Bare these things in mind as you reach through my ballot.
Now, without further ado, please enjoy the very first Jordie Awards!
