It has been a trying few years to say the least for Justice League director Zack Snyder. The filmmaker was put in charge of the DC Extended Universe following Man of Steel. The filmmaker ultimately had to step away from movies in 2017 to deal with a family tragedy, leaving Avengers director Joss Whedon to finish Justice League.

Zack Snyder is set to make his return behind the camera for what The Hollywood Reporter is calling a “zombie action pic” called Army of the Dead. The outlet describes the project’s synopsis:

“The adventure is set amid a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, during which a man assembles a group of mercenaries to take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantined zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.”

Zack Snyder told THR that there are no handcuffs on him this time and describes the project as therapeutic:

“I thought this was a good palate cleanser to really dig in with both hands and make something fun and epic and crazy and bonkers in the best possible way.”

It is worth mentioning that Netflix actively sought the project out from its original developer, Warner Bros, and the two entities struck an unprecedented deal that opens the door to similar transactions in the future.

Netflix says the budget could reach $90 million; however, there is no release date set for the film. Snyder has experience with such material, having directed the remake of Dawn of the Dead back in 2004. Other Zack Snyder films include 300, Watchmen and Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
