The Ghostbusters are back. Well, almost.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Jason Reitman, son of original Ghostbusters Director Ivan Reitman, will co-write and direct the next Ghostbusters movie, which is currently slated for a Summer 2020 release.
Speaking to EW, Reitman said:
“I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans.”
On whether or not this would be a sequel to Paul Feig’s 2016 reboot, Reitman confirmed that his upcoming film would instead be a follow-up to Ghostbusters 2:
“I have so much respect for what Paul created with those brilliant actresses, and would love to see more stories from them. However, this new movie will follow the trajectory of the original film.”
Ivan Reitman will return to produce the project, but there is no word yet on if Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, or Bill Murray will reprise their iconic roles. Harold Ramis unfortunately passed in 2014.
A new teaser trailer for the film dropped alongside the breaking news. You can watch the it below:

I would go see it. Am I excited about it…not really. Didn’t see the 2016 movie but heard it didn’t do well at the box office.
